English Language Program was designed to determine a level of English language proficiency prerequisite for admission to the University Medical Faculty ( English Media).

The program takes into account the requirements for foreign students who speak English on the level necessary for admission to universities in the Russian Federation.

  1. Entrance examinations are conducted in the oral form.
  2. The exam tests English language skills in the following types of speech activity: reading, speaking, understanding, grammar.
  3. In the entrance exam an applicant must demonstrate: skills in reading, understanding, rendering, answering questions to the text on basic sciences, understanding speech addressed to him, extracting factual information (subject, time, relationship, characteristics of objects, goals, reasons), taking part in dialogues on proposed topics, expressing their attitude to the statements of the speakers, formulating own statements based on what they have read or listened in accordance with the norms of English.

The structure of examination paper and assessment criteria

The examination paper for the oral entrance exam contains 3 sections.

The first part is reading.
The applicant shall read the text. The assessment takes into account the applicant’s reading ( speed and pronunciation), understanding of the text content and vocabulary, the ability to adequately respond to the questions, rendering the text and extracting factual information from it, formulating own statements based on this text.

Evaluation Criteria
The maximum score for this task – to 40 points.
Reading (speed and pronunciation) – to 10 points
Understanding – to 10 points
Answering the questions- to 10 points
Rendering- to 10 points

The second part is speaking
When answering this question speech skills and monologue construction skills as well as dialogue skills and abilities are evaluated. The applicant must be able to understand the content of the other person’s statements, identify their communicative intentions, respond properly to the remarks, and also be able to initiate a dialogue and express their communicative intentions on one of the proposed topics:

  1. Acquaintance
  2. About myself
  3. My family
  4. My country
  5. Foreign languages study
  6. My working day
  7. My day off
  8. Doctor- profession
  9. Why I want to study in Russia
  10. Weather
  11. Education in my country
  12. Man and his health
  13. The capital of your country
  14. Famous doctors you know

Evaluation Criteria
The maximum score for this task is 50 points.
The correspondence of the statement to the subject – to 10 points
The scope of the statement -to 10 points
Understanding examiner’s questions — to 10 points
Ability to initiate a dialogue – to10 points
Speech without lexical and grammatical errors- to 10 points

The third part is grammar
The maximum score for this question is 10.
In the third question applicant is offered sentences that contain missing grammatical forms. His task is to restore the correct grammatical forms.

The maximum score for this question is 10.
2 points for each correct answer
